Work in the Homes.  New flooring has been laid within Spring Gardens and further decorations completed. Energy Audit Scotland has concluded its survey of the Spring Gardens energy usage and efficiency in-line with the Government’s drive to reduce carbon emissions and as a result upgraded boiler will be installed within the Home in the near future.

Viewpark has just taken delivery of the new dining room furniture which residents and staff selected and are pleased with. Work to replace and upgrade the laundry facility in the Abercorn Nursing Home began today (Monday 26th October 2009) with completion due by Thursday morning. This will give new upgraded sluice washers and dryer and the refit will include on-site commissioning and training of staff. The upgraded facility will allow for spare capacity laundry facilities to the benefit of the Homes.

Staff Training. Staff training remains key to our delivery of professional care within Abercorn Care Limited. We are therefore delighted that a number of our staff have come to the end of their respective Health & Social Care SVQ courses achieve highly creditable passes. Well done to them all and this again reflects in that Abercorn Care Limited qualified staff in all the homes exceeds the Care Commission's National Care Standard requirement of 55% by and amazing 60%.

Selected staff are about to start on their supervisors course with West Lothian college whilst a other staff are undertaking medication management and nutrition course through Aberdeen College. We wish them all our support in the forthcoming studies.

Care Commission Inspections.  Our thanks to everyone, Residents, families and staff, for their contribution in the recent announced inspection across all the Abercorn Care Limited Homes which are now complete. We await the final report from the Commission which will be published on the Home's web site and also hardcopy held within each home for all to view. We know that we have achieved grading scores of fives (Very Good) across the board with a six (Excellent) for safe recruitment.

Swine Flu Vaccination.   The Homes Managers will progress the Government’s vaccination policy as soon as we are informed that the clinics are open and ready to dispense the flu jabs. All residents and staff are eligible for the inoculation but it is a matter if personal choice and consent forms will be required.
